On June 30, the international children’s and youth camp “Jelgava – Mītava” began in Jelgava, with 60 children and teenagers aged 10 to 17 along with six accompanying teachers from Jelgava’s twin city Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. For the second year in a row, the camp is organized by Jelgava State City municipality with the support of local businesses.

The camp will run for two weeks – from June 30 to July 13, offering Ukrainian children a chance to rest, make new friends, and enjoy positive experiences in a safe and peaceful environment outside the war.
The camp “Jelgava-Mītava” is led by Dace Ekša, Director of Jelgava Primary School “Valdeka” – Development Centre, and includes a diverse program of two-week activities. The group will explore Jelgava, visit the Youth Centre, and enjoy city tourist and entertainment attractions. They will also travel around Latvia, with planned visits to Riga, Tērvete Nature Park, Ventspils Science Centre VIZIUM, Rundāle Palace, and Bauska.
The program also features creative and and practical masterclasses, including bread baking, caramel making, artistic workshops, as well as cultural and leisure events such as a talent show, open-air cinema screenings, discos, and beach activities.
The “Jelgava – Mitava” camp is made possible thanks to financial support from Jelgava’s local businesses, who have collectively donated more than €24,000. Referring to the city’s call, several companies have played a key role in ensuring Ukrainian children and youth enjoy a meaningful and high-quality summer experience in Jelgava.
