On November 8, a solemn remembrance ceremony was held at the Forest Cemetery (Meža kapi) to honor British soldiers and sailors who fell during the First World War. The event was attended by the British Ambassador to Latvia, Kathy Leach, representatives of the British Embassy, ambassadors from other countries, representatives of ministries, military personnel, the leadership of the Jelgava State City Municipality, and members of the public.

The remembrance ceremony in Jelgava is traditionally organized each year by the British Embassy to honor the memory of British soldiers resting at the Forest Cemetery, where 36 British soldiers and sailors who died in the First World War are buried.

In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Day is comparable to Lāčplēsis Day in Latvia. It commemorates members of the armed forces who lost their lives in the line of duty, both in the past and today. The day’s events usually take place before November 11, marking a moment of silence in memory of November 11, 1918, when the signing of the Armistice ended the First World War.
