To mark Jelgava’s 760th anniversary, a large-scale environmental installation titled “Time whirlpool” has been placed in Duke Jēkabs Square, symbolizing a city that has gone through the winds of endurance and has been able to be reborn again and again. Its colorful design resonates with festival identity and shows how different we – the people of Jelgava – are, how diverse our traditions are.

Connecting with the identity of the 760th anniversary and the City parade’s motto “Color Jelgava!” the large-format environmental object is also made colorful. The installation consists of 14 curved, large-scale panels in deep blue, violet, pink, orange, yellow, and red. Each panel is printed with Jelgava-specific and festive motifs. To add to the festive mood, the object will be accompanied by a musical backdrop featuring songs dedicated to Jelgava. The structure measures approximately nine meters in both length and width.
To further enhance the festive spirit, decorative flag banners in the colors of Jelgava and Latvia have been placed on light poles along Lielā Street, from Cukura Street to Dambja Street. Flags in Jelgava’s colors are also displayed on three light poles in Duke Jēkabs Square. Since Easter, festive flag installations have brightened the traffic roundabout on Pasta Street and Jānis Čakste Boulevard. Additionally, two photo frames featuring the 760th anniversary design have been installed—one in Ozolskvērs and the other on Driksa Street.
Everyone is invited to take photos with the new installation or the festive photo frames and share their joy or send birthday greetings to the city of Jelgava. Pictures can be posted on social media using the hashtags #MesEsamJelgava, #SatiksimiesJelgava, and #Jelgava760.
