Celebrating Latvia’s 107th birthday, on November 18 from 5.30 p.m. to 9 p.m., residents are invited to Jelgava Palace Park to create a candle composition for Latvia — “Our Path.” From the Driksa Bridge to the southern gates of the Palace, a light path in the colors of the national flag — made of red and white candles — will be formed as a gift from the people of Jelgava to Latvia on its celebration day.
Each resident is invited to come to the Palace Park that evening with a red or white candle to add to the ongoing composition in the colors of the Latvian flag, which will wind through the park. The lighting of the candles is planned to begin at 5.30 p.m., but residents may add their candles to the shared path until 9 p.m.
This will be our jointly created gift to Latvia on its birthday — an invitation for everyone to reflect on how each of us, through our work, heart, and faith, helps to build Latvia’s path.
In the Palace courtyard, a festive atmosphere will be created with patriotic background music, bonfires will be lit, and residents will be greeted by the 4th Kurzeme Brigade of the National Guard’s 52nd Combat Support Battalion, offering warm tea.
