Let’s celebrate Jelgava’s 760th anniversary together! May 30 to June 1

May is here – the month of Jelgava’s City Festival, a time of pride, unity, and celebration. This year it is special, as the city, under the theme “Color Jelgava!”, celebrates its 760th birthday. As tradition goes, a wide range of events will take place during the last week of May, with the main celebration days happening from May 30 to June 1. One of the most beautiful highlights for over 20 years has been the festive City Parade, where institutions, organizations, associations, and all residents are warmly invited to take part. Let us be united and mark Jelgava in colors, showcasing the richness of our people and the diversity of our traditions!

The City Parade is a powerful expression of our patriotism, belonging, and pride. Under the theme “Color Jelgava!”, it will take place on May 30 at 6:00 PM along Lielā Street, creating a vibrant and dynamic stream of participants.

Everyone – from public institutions to community groups and individual residents – are invited to use the symbolism of colors in their costumes or attributes to create a visually impressive and united appearance. No prior registration is needed. Assembly begins at 5:30 PM on Pulkveža Oskara Kalpaka, Svētes, J. Asara, Lielā Streets and in Ozolskvērs. Participants using vehicles will gather on Vecpilsētas Street. More information will be available on www.jelgava.lv.

The scale and color of the celebration depend entirely on your enthusiasm and participation. Last year, we set a record with over 12,000 participants and a parade stretching more than 7,000 meters – let’s see if we can surpass it this year!

Throughout the festive week, the city will host concerts, performances, a festive market, sports activities, creative workshops, exhibitions, family entertainment, demonstrations, and more. The full celebration program will soon be available on Jelgava.lv and in the May issue of Jelgavas Vēstnesis.

Let’s be proud of our city, let’s color Jelgava and celebrate together!
