Admissions for vacant undergraduate and postgraduate study seats at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) continue starting August 3. As a result, becoming a student in Jelgava this autumn is still possible for anyone who did not manage to apply in July. So far, 868 undergraduate applicants and 238 master’s applicants have signed academic contracts at LBTU, meaning that at least 1,106 new students could begin their 1st-year studies this autumn.

Compared to July of the previous year, the total number of students is similar.

Admission Process for Undergraduate Programs (for secondary school graduates)

Prospective students have access to state-funded undergraduate (bachelor’s) or “budget” seats in the following programs:

• “Biosystems Machinery and Technologies”
• “Computer Control and Computer Science”
• “Information Technologies for Sustainable Development”
• “Catering and Hotel Management”
• “Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing”
• “Woodworking”
• “Environment and Water Management”
• “Land Management and Geodesy”

In the majority of programs, the number of available “budget” seats is very small; therefore, interested applicants are asked to call the dean’s office of the respective faculty before visiting to check if seats are still available.

LBTU offers tuition-based (paid) study seats in August for all active study programs, with the exception of the “Veterinary Medicine” program, for which admissions have closed. However, admissions remain open for LBTU’s only distance-learning bachelor’s program, “Sociology of Organizations and Public Administration,” where education can be pursued remotely, as well as in other study programs that offer part-time study options.

In August, prospective students must contact the faculty of their chosen study program and submit their application there. Faculties will be open every working day from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Detailed information about faculty operating hours, locations, and available programs is accessible here.

Applicants must bring a passport or ID card, original educational documents, and proof of payment for the application fee.

Admission Process for Postgraduate (Master’s) Studies (for higher education graduates)

In postgraduate (master’s) studies, state-funded (“budget”) seats are available in the following programs:

• “Nutritional Science”

Admission Process for Doctoral Programs (for master’s degree holders)

LBTU implements 11 accredited doctoral study programs across three distinct scientific fields:

• Biosciences: Forest Science, Veterinary Medicine, and Agriculture
• Engineering Sciences: Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Information Technologies, Wood Materials and Technology, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science, and Environmental Engineering
• Social Sciences: Agricultural and Regional Economics

Acceptance of candidate documents for state-funded study spots will take place from August 10 to August 21 at Jelgava Palace, Room 295, on working days from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Alternatively, the required documents—signed with a secure electronic signature—can be submitted via email to jelena.ruba@lbtu.lv.

Evaluation of submitted applications and the signing of contracts will take place from August 21 to August 31.
