On July 20, the submission of applications for prospective students at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) came to an end. Applicants could apply to one of 23 basic (bachelor’s) study programs and 16 higher-level (master’s) programs. In total this year, 3,899 applications were received for basic studies — 918 of which were listed as first-priority choices —while 427 applications were submitted for higher-level studies.

This year as well, we see that the future students’ choices are goal-oriented and correspond to fields where highly qualified specialists are needed for society and the economy. The fact that many applicants choose LBTU as their top priority confirms that young people know well in advance what professional path they want to build. We cooperate with industry representatives to ensure that the study content meets labor market needs and that our graduates are competitive both in Latvia and internationally. It is also gratifying that the university continues to attract young people from all over Latvia and abroad while maintaining high admission standards, as our goal is to prepare not just students, but outstanding professionals in their fields,” notes LBTU Rector Irina Arhipova.

As shown in the statistics compiled by the unified university admissions system, the highest number of applications in LBTU’s basic study competition was received for the “Veterinary Medicine” program, which was chosen as a first priority by 125 applicants. The second most frequently chosen program was “Civil Engineering,” receiving a total of 98 first-priority applications across both full-time and part-time study groups. The top three most popular study programs this year were rounded out by the “Forestry Engineering” program, which received 81 first-priority applications. High applicant interest was also observed in the “Agriculture” program (70 first-priority applications), “Applied Power Engineering” (59 applications), and “Sociology of Organizations and Public Administration” (53 first-priority applications). Significant interest was also shown for the “Economics” program (48 applications) and the “Design and Crafts” program (45 applications).

Meanwhile, the highest competition per state-funded study place in the first priority occurred in the following programs: “Business and Business Management” with 2.4 applicants per seat, “Veterinary Medicine” with 2.3 applicants, “Design and Crafts” with 2 applicants, “Sociology of Organizations and Public Administration” with 1.9 applicants, and “Forestry Engineering” with 1.8 applicants per seat.

In higher-level (master’s) degree programs, the largest number of applications was received for “Project Management,” with 77 applications. The second largest was for “Business Management,” where a total of 55 applications were received across its 1.5-year and 2-year programs. Meanwhile, the academic master’s program in “Economics” received 44 applications, and “Sustainable Finance” received 34 applications. The professional master’s program in “Human Resource Management and Career Counseling” received 33 applications. Demand was also high this year for “Forest Science” (29 applications) and “Information Technologies” (27 applications).

The highest competition per seat at the master’s level occurred in the “Project Management” program, with 5.7 prospective master’s students competing for a single seat. Next was “Business Management” with 4.7 applicants per seat, followed by “Sustainable Finance” with 1.8 applicants per seat.

The results of the basic study competition will be available starting July 27 at 10:00 AM. Every applicant will receive a notification regarding the Round 1 results via SMS and email from the Unified Admissions Basic Study System (VUPP). More detailed information will be provided by email. At that time, applicants will be able to confirm their study place, decline it, or apply for Round 2 of the competition. The Round 2 results will be available on July 29 after 5:00 PM.

For higher-level studies, applicants can find out their competition results by contacting the dean’s office of their chosen study program’s faculty. LBTU graduates who applied for master’s studies electronically can view their provisional results in their LAIS account.

To begin studies at LBTU in the autumn, signing study contracts is mandatory between July 28 and July 31 for applicants who have secured a seat. Starting August 3, LBTU will announce open admissions for any remaining basic and master’s level study places that were not filled after contract signing. Consequently, interested applicants who did not manage to participate in the July admissions competition will still have an opportunity to do so for select programs in August.
