Taking into account the orange weather warning issued by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) for August 22nd and prioritizing the safety of participants, a decision has been made to postpone the Jelgava Night Half Marathon to the 5th of September.

On August 22, one of the largest road races in Latvia—the Jelgava Night Half-Marathon—will take place in Jelgava. Traffic will be significantly restricted in the city during the race, six city bus routes will be altered, and a stopping and parking ban along the race route will be in effect starting from the afternoon of Friday, August 21. A traffic restriction map can be found at the end of the news article, and changes will also be integrated into the “Waze” navigation system.

One month remains until Jelgava’s largest sporting event of the year—on August 22, the Jelgava Night Half-Marathon will take place, which will simultaneously serve as the Latvian Championship. More than 500 Jelgava residents will have the opportunity to participate free of charge.

On July 20, the submission of applications for prospective students at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) came to an end. Applicants could apply to one of 23 basic (bachelor’s) study programs and 16 higher-level (master’s) programs. In total this year, 3,899 applications were received for basic studies — 918 of which were listed as first-priority choices —while 427 applications were submitted for higher-level studies.

On June 21st, Jelgava will mark the longest day and shortest night of the year by honoring Latvian traditions and the power of fire. Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Summer Solstice and Herbal Market in the Jelgava Old Town Street Quarter, participate in ancient rituals on Castle Island (Pils saliņa), and witness an impressive burning and glowing of fire sculptures on Post Island (Pasta sala).

The summer solstice is approaching, bringing with it the longest day and the shortest night of the year. Traditionally, various themed events take place during this time. The Jelgava Regional Tourism Center (JRTC) also invites city residents and guests to the annual Midsummer Fair this Sunday, June 21st, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Jelgava Old Town Street Quarter.

On June 10th, the 14th International Large-Scale Ceramic Fire Sculpture Symposium will begin on Post Island (Pasta sala) in Jelgava, gathering four internationally recognized ceramicists who will create their works this year around the theme “Identity”. Until June 21st, visitors will have the opportunity to watch the creation of the large-scale sculptures in person and follow the creative process.
