From May 8 to May 17, the Restaurant Week campaign “Spring Tasting in the Jelgava Region” will take place in Jelgava and Jelgava Municipality. This spring, 19 restaurants, pubs, and cafés have united under the theme “Spring on the Plate” to offer visitors the chance, over ten days, to enjoy new variations of dishes and flavors made from seasonal spring ingredients.
This year’s “Spring Tasting” will feature both long-time participants who regularly take part in the campaign with special menus, as well as new participants – the Italian pizzeria “Quattro Mori” and the café “Lācēni.” In Jelgava, gourmets will be welcomed by restaurants “8th Floor,” “City Breath,” “Central Cafe,” “Chocolate & Pepper,” grill bar & restaurant “Parks,” pub “Istaba,” café and bar “Ezītis miglā Jelgava,” pizzeria “Quattro Mori,” Noliktava No.2, bistro and confectionery “Silva,” and the “Silva” Tea House. Meanwhile, in Jelgava Municipality, guests will be welcomed by restaurants “Avlabar,” “Masti,” “Aitiņlauvas,” “Zemnieka cienasts,” cafés “Lācēni,” “Svētes klubs,” as well as Abgunste Manor and “Branku Brančotava.”
The “Spring Tasting” campaign continues an established tradition, offering an opportunity to discover and rediscover the diversity of dining establishments in Jelgava and its surrounding region. However, this year brings a new feature – all participating venues will offer two- or three-course meals within set price categories: €20, €25, €30, €35, €40, €45, or €50. Two-course meals will be available from €20 to €40, while three-course meals will range from €25 to €45, and brunch options will be offered for €40 or €50.
The “Spring Tasting” menus will include a variety of European cuisine options. Starters may include lightly marinated young asparagus with tomato–shallot salsa, fresh cheese–hazelnut cream, spinach, and crispy hard cheese; wild garlic and green pea cream soup with blue cheese, kale chips, and chili oil; grilled paprika gazpacho with lightly marinated fennel, vegetable salsa, and tiger prawns; fresh vegetable soup; and other appetizers. Among the main courses, you will find parrotfish fillet with morel mushrooms, cauliflower purée, green asparagus, and fish-citrus sauce; duck breast with steamed vegetables and rhubarb-honey sauce; pappardelle pasta with grilled quail breast, asparagus, king oyster mushrooms, ricotta, and Parmesan; sous-vide grilled turkey fillet with sweet potato purée and spinach-asparagus sauce; or charcoal-grilled eel skewers with grilled vegetables. For dessert, options include rhubarb tart with torched meringue, rhubarb ice cream, and raspberry sauce; quince mousse with custard and fresh berries; mousse cake with rhubarb confit and pistachio sponge; pie with apples baked in cognac; and many other treats. Restaurants will also offer spring-inspired drinks such as birch sap lemonade, refreshing non-alcoholic rhubarb drinks, and non-alcoholic grapefruit spritz.
You can find the opening hours and menus of participating venues on the website www.visit.jelgava.lv, on @Visit.Jelgava on Facebook and Instagram, as well as on the Jelgava Food and Hospitality Association’s Facebook profile @Taste Jelgava and website www.tastejelgava.lv.
At the beginning of May, a contest will take place on the @Visit Jelgava Facebook page, where participants can win the opportunity to enjoy one of the special “Tasting” offers.
Guests are encouraged to reserve tables in advance to ensure they can enjoy the prepared offerings. It should be noted that some venues will offer the special meals only on specific days of the week. Abgunste Manor will host a brunch on May 10, “Branku Brančotava” on May 16, and the café “Svētes klubs” will offer dinner on May 15. Restaurant “8th Floor” and Noliktava No.2 will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, pizzeria “Quattro Mori” from Thursday to Sunday, and bistro and confectionery “Silva” from Monday to Friday.
“Spring Tasting in the Jelgava Region” takes place twice a year – in spring and autumn. The event is organized by the Jelgava Regional Tourism Center in cooperation with the City of Jelgava, Jelgava Municipality, the Jelgava Food and Hospitality Association, and local catering businesses.
